“Giuseppe possesses a strong ability to inspire the musicians and the audience alike through his musical language which speaks directly to everyone’s hearts.”

JAKUB HRŮŠA, Chief Conductor
of the Bamberger Symphoniker

Italian conductor Giuseppe Mengoli is the 1st prize winner of The Mahler Competition 2023.

The week following his success in Bamberg, Giuseppe was asked to step in to conduct a program including Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben with the Wiener Symphoniker at the Bregenzer Festspiele. In November 2023 Giuseppe returned to the Bamberger Symphoniker to replace Herbert Blomstedt at very short notice, resulting in a critically acclaimed concert. In February 2024, he worked with the orchestra again for a Bayerische Rundfunk production and returned for various concerts in July 2024.

In the 2023/2024 season, Giuseppe made his debut with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Opéra Marseille, Rotterdam Philharmonic, SWR Symphonieorchester, Bruckner Orchester Linz, and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Highlights of the 2024/2025 season include Giuseppe’s debut with Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Dresdner Philharmonie, Wiener Kammerorchester, Bremer Philharmoniker, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orquesta Sinfónica y Coro RTVE, Bochumer Symphoniker, and returns to the SWR Symphonieorchester, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, and Rotterdam Philharmonic. In Italy he will not only conduct symphonic programs all over the country but also lead performances of Verdi’s opera Un ballo in maschera with Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana at Teatro della Fortuna, Fano and conduct La Sonnambula in Teatro Massimo Palermo.

THE ORCHESTRA WITH
MENGOLI DOES WONDERS

“Mengoli, at the helm of the orchestra, delivers a truly remarkable concert. (...) But even more than these stimulating and truly original interpretative directions, it is the mastery with which, despite likely shortened rehearsals, the young conductor manages to embody them in the sound of the orchestra, without the slightest hesitation, and with a sound palette that rather than an emergency situation seems to be the result of extensive work.”

SPECTACULAR FIREBIRD FINALE

“Like a magician, Mengoli constructed the stage scenes of Igor Stravinsky's 1945 ballet suite The Firebird, shaping them with gestures, hand movements, and even a dance-like body language. (...) The beginning from nothingness, the subdued, muffled passages, the fading of the Berceuse: the spectacular orchestration was beautifully brought to life, making Stravinsky's bird sparkle, flicker, and soar with power. Between lullaby and infernal dance, there was pure, finely nuanced chamber music to be experienced, as the magnificent orchestra intensified into precise, dazzling orgiastic energy, without losing sharpness, even in moments of sumptuous sound. The finale, with its storming percussiveness and apotheotic vehemence, was hardly surpassable. Yet, there was no overt display of ego from Giuseppe Mengoli, who managed to shape even the barbarically forceful final scene with hypnotic pulsation.”

QUINTE PARALLELE

“(…) We have all adapted to creating art in a short amount of time and are capable of doing so. However, cultivating deep artistic collaborations in a fast-paced and easily distracting world would allow us to create a countercurrent wave, standing against the increasingly prevalent musical consumerism.”
